Chief Executive - Power Up North London

Location: Hybrid (remote and North London sites)

Hours: Part-time (22.5 hours a week)

Salary: £60,000 per annum (pro-rata, based on 22.5 hours a week)

Power Up North London is an award-winning community energy organisation delivering renewable energy, energy efficiency and retrofit projects that directly benefit community groups and public buildings. We're driven by a belief that communities can and must play a central role in the transition to a zero-carbo. future.

About the role

As our new CEO you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership, setting and delivering PUNL's business plan and longterm vision

  • Oversee the operations of the organisations, ensuring high quality project delivery

  • Grow a strong pipeline of community-energy and retrofit projects

  • Lead fundraising and develop new income, grant and investment opportunities

  • Build and nurture relationships with host sites, investors, partner organisations and local authorities

  • Represent PUNL publicly and champion the role of community-led energy to London's transition to net zero

  • Lead and line manage a small team fostering a collaborative and delivery-focused culture

This is a unique opportunity to shape and grow an organisation with a strong track record, and experienced Board and an active community base. Having just received 5-year funding from the National Lottery in support of our core running costs, you will be joining at a pivotal moment as PUNL expands its portfolio, strengthens its membership model and deepens its impact across North London.

About you

We're looking for someone who is:

  • An experienced leader with a background in sustainability, community energy, social enterprise or similar

  • Financially astute, comfortable with financial models, budgets, reporting, cashflow and grant requirements

  • A strong communicator who can engage a diverse set of stakeholders including community groups, government and technical partners

  • Enthusiastic about climate action and committed to community-led change

  • Collaborative, organised and comfortable operating both at a strategic and operational level

  • Proactive, dynamic self-starter who works independently with confidence to drive progress and deliver results
